ELECTRIC FAN
After 20,000 trouble free miles without a fan attached at all...I thought I would add an electric fan for the simple reason I was touring France / Spanish border in the summer months with six in the 110 and a fully loaded roof rack. I guessed this had potential for overheating..... After looking at the Kenlow/Pacet options I thought they were overpriced, more discussion on LR4X4.com pointed toward the X-Eng thermostatic switch for £40. A relay, switch and a few bits of wire were added and after some basic fabrication this is what happened.

The X-Eng kit ...fitted into the bottom hose of the radiator

Ford fan (you can get a flatter one which apparently moves more air if your so inclined) from a scrap yard trimmed square. Then welded four lugs with studs onto the radiator surround (circled in yellow). I would have preferred to fabricate these out of angle iron around the perimeter of the fan, but I had no angle iron and wanted it finished that day....but that's just me being picky..

Then you can see the fan bolted in place, just the wiring to do......again, asked my brother the electrician and he drew me this to suit my needs. Note that the switch has a high & low setting, I just wanted a very basic "engine gets too hot - fan comes on" set up. I didn't want twin fans, high/low selectors or light in the cab. You can do all of this if so inclined, but I wanted it as simple as possible - fit and forget. The numbers may appear unusual on the relay, that's because the relay is from the car the fan came from in the scrap yard. Whole project cost about £53 at the most.

Note, if you wade you would probably want to put the relay in a different place and fit a switch so you can turn the fan off all together. Electric fans don't like being forced to work under mud!
