Finished Mini
27th June 2009.
Well, thats it really. 23rd March to 28th June, I'm pretty shocked how quick it went. I was finishing a Degree course, working full time, and I've got little kids that take up some time, but it got done. The car had previously had some good gear fitted to it, some one obviously had spent some money on it in its life and apart from the rust and the bad wiring for additional spots, it was pretty good. Fortunately welding is easy for me (bit of a hobby) and the wiring was easily restored to standard, just took time...

Most expensive single item was the alloy wheel package at £300, and I thought that was cheap. Most unexpected purchase was a full clutch for £110 after I had to cut the old one off. Heres a brief (!) list of the new stuff, its not exhaustive.
The running gear: Alloys, tyres, valves, nuts, all bearings, brake pads, shoes, flexi's and pipes and unions. Brake discs & handbrake cables & quadrant pins. Recon radius arm, all suspension & subframe mounting bolts & bushes throughout the car and new shock absorbers and suspension knuckles.
The engine bay: new fuse box, fuses, partial wiring, all gaskets on the engine except the block to gearbox one. New air filter, plugs, leads, cap, belts, clutch kit & bearing. Clutch pins, radiator (uprated), some hoses and thermostat, master cylinder base plate. In the back a new battery and earth strap.
The inside: everthing was cleaned up fine, but the interior got a new (2nd hand) clock set, carpets, additional sound proofing, door fittings & grommets and a new heater matrix.
Externally: new screen, new rubbers and seals all round, arial, new arch set, new roof trim, new chrome throughout (wipers, bumpers, grill etc...)
Lights: all completely brand new except the two rear light clusters. Headlamps were uprated so I can actually see in the dark.
Panels: front panel, wings, inner wings, apex's, door skins, door hinges, inner, outer and step sills, partial pocket floors, rear boot half, boot hinge rail, side trims, scuttle repairs, fitch panel, vent holes and a few hand made repair pieces.
In total the car has absorbed: 3 liters of black Hammerite, 2 liters of black Por15. 4.5 liters (yes, four and a half) of Waxoyle. 200ml of engine paint, 1 liter of etch primer, 1 liter of bar coat, 3 liters of two pack paint, 1.5 liters of two pack hardner and about half a liter of thinners. 1 tube of tiger seal sealant about 20 assorted sheets of wet & dry, one tub of general purpose grease, two packets of 1/4 inch and 5/16 nuts, a pack of 40 washers and over 40 stainless steel screws. In ditting this lot I have used nearly 150 rubber gloves and two tubs of swarfega.
Thats just what I can recall!
Passed it's MOT without a glitch.
