Body Prep

This is basically stuff I don't know what to do with.... The welding is done, now I need to "sort the metal" ready for the paint........something I'm not really looking forward too....

here it is in the garage...its at this stage I would recommend calling the paint shop...

Bonet was covered in crud underneath..

After an hour with a wallpaper scraper and half a liter of engine degreasant and some Cillit Bang I came to the conclusion that I should have just bought a new one...  but af I threw some primer at it I felt a bit happier about it.

The next night I stripped the door and apex then filled the scuttle and rear quater repair I'd welded in. I used this stuff, it sands well., I used half the pack for the whole car.

Then on saturday I did more prep....

You get the picture....sand, smooth, fill, spray, sand, re-fill, smooth, re-spray etc....

Then I got bored. So I prep'd the engine bay and the boot. ...then tried the etch primer/putty..

It was a bit like spraying yoghurt... (remember I don't spray usually..). Then I thought....maybe I could try the barcoat...

This went on great......... so I tried the paint (yes, with breathing gear...)

Yup, thats the colour... First time I sprayed two pack...the finish is unreal!...

So...After a quick beer....(a major problem brewing wine & beer in your workshop...)

I though about building a spray booth as the bikes etc were getting dusty from the spray.

I left about 4 foot around the car, so plenty space to spray.

About two extra days of prep had me at this point...

I'd painted inside also, just the outer to do. Even purchased a new gun for the job...

Tomorrow I'll be etching and maybe barcoating the shell. I'll do the doors, bonet and boot lid later.

I'm liking the colour more all the time

I took a days holiday and checked all the prep work then threw on a liter of etch putty.

I was rather pleased with this. I waited an hour then lightly wet & dried it with some 600 grit, then put some barcoat on top as advised by the paint guy.

This was sprayed straight from the gun with no thinners. You can see I plastic primed the arches, I'm painting them the same colour as the car.
