Vespa PK

May 2010 and I'm at a loss. I'm so used to working all the time that I seem to struggle to stop and relax when University finishes for the summer. I'd usually burn this off with some cycling, or planning some sort of trip or challenge, but a slight decline in health means that this is out of the question. I keep looking at the scooters in the classifieds and then I see it. A Vespa PK50 in Halifax just 130mile from me...just the ticket to keeping my mind busy. Its a 1984 PK100, but the motor went pop and the owner had a 50cc PK motor from an Italian import. The initial plan was to rebuild it with his son...but his son wasn't interested in Vespa's so it went up for sale as a stripped project.

And here it is.... I know............

Most of the big stuff is there, but the little stuff is either missing or worn...like you would expect for a 26year old scooter.

Theres a few bends and dents in the frame, but thats easy sorted with a dolly and some hammers, the indicators have been frenched in (bodged/filled, what ever you call it...). I'm not sure what to do with them to be honest, I may restore to standard or I may re-do them to a better standard and work with the indicatorless look....not sure, we will see.... What I do know is that they aren't good enough as they are !

There are also a load of holes drilled here and there, not a big problem to weld up and flush back, but I just don't know what's supposed to be there and what's been added later.

The foot brake, stand and one bit of the wiring loom is all thats left attached. Once they are removed I can start to straighten the frame and start welding.

Here it is stripped, the work begins.... click below to see the progress
